SECTION A
This section comprises 5 questions of 1 mark each.
1.What is a line of symmetry?
1 2.How many lines of symmetry does a square have?
1 3.Does a scalene triangle have any line of symmetry?
1 4.What is rotational symmetry?
1 5.What is the order of rotational symmetry of an equilateral triangle?
1 SECTION B
This section comprises 2 very short answer (VSA) type questions of 2 marks each.
6.What is the difference between line symmetry and rotational symmetry? Give one example of each.
2 7.Write all the capital letters of the English alphabet that have both line symmetry and rotational symmetry.
2 SECTION C
This section comprises 2 short answer (SA) type questions of 3 marks each.
8.A regular pentagon has 5 lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry of order 5. (a) What angle of rotation brings it back to its original position each time? (b) Draw a regular pentagon and mark all its lines of symmetry. (c) Compare its symmetry with a regular hexagon.
3 9.Look at the following figures and for each state: (i) number of lines of symmetry (ii) order of rotational symmetry — Circle, Square, Rectangle, Equilateral Triangle.
3 SECTION D
This section comprises 1 long answer (LA) type questions of 5 marks each.
10.Aryan is designing a rangoli pattern for Diwali. He wants it to have 8 lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry of order 8. (a) What basic shape could be the basis of his design? (b) What angle of rotation gives rotational symmetry? (c) He starts with a circle of radius 10 cm. He marks 8 equally spaced points on it. What angle is between consecutive points? (d) He draws lines connecting opposite points. How many such lines are there? (e) What is the total number of regions created inside the circle?
